The people of the state of Mississippi may be known for being hospitable, but don’t mistake Mississippians’ kindness for weakness. From unbearable temperatures to natural disasters, living in Mississippi produces some of the toughest people around.
1. Summers are no joke in Mississippi, and dealing with the heat isn’t for everyone.
2. To make matters worse, those temperatures bring humidity – a lot of it. And unless you’ve lived in it, you wouldn’t understand.
3. The mosquitoes in Mississippi are apparently on steroids because they’re huge and they mean business.
4. In addition to mosquitoes, Mississippians must deal with another annoying insect – mayflies. This may not seem that bad until you’re facing a massive swarm of these things. Have you ever tried driving through a blanket of bugs?
5. Here in Mississippi, hurricanes are a very real possibility which means Mississippians sometimes have to live for weeks on end with no electricity or running water. Living without A.C. in temperatures nearing a hundred? Yeah, it’s brutal.
6. From the agricultural industry and beyond, Mississippians perform some pretty tough, labor-intensive jobs.
7. It’s no secret that many Mississippians take college football very seriously. And while dealing with losses can be difficult, we always bounce back.
8. Sure Mississippians are aware of how awesome the state is, but that doesn’t mean everyone does. Constantly dealing with stereotypes is enough to thicken anyone’s skin.
9. When it comes to protecting the country, Mississippians are not afraid to step up. Need proof? The town of D’Lo sent more men to serve in WWII than any other town of its size. And that’s just one example of the bravery exhibited in the state.
10. Lastly, Mississippians were just raised to be tough.
