Merging nature, culture, and recreation like no other, the Museum Trail in Jackson is one of the most unique hikes in all of Mississippi. Truly one-of-a-kind, it offers access to a farmers market, three parks, and four museums, making for an unforgettable, fun-filled trek that can be enjoyed by all ages.
Completed at the beginning of 2021, the Museum Trail is Jackson’s first rail trail.
It follows an old GM&O line, transforming a deserted railroad into one of the state’s most unique hikes.
The nearly 3-mile multi-use trail is perfect for walking, jogging, and cycling.
It’s also a great way to tour Jackson since it leads to some of the city’s best sites. On one end of the trail, you’ll find the Mississippi Farmers Market, Mississippi Civil Rights Museum, and the Mississippi Museum of History.
The Mississippi Children’s Museum and Museum of Natural Science sit at the opposite end of the trail.
In between, you’ll be met with lovely scenery and greenery, providing an easy escape from the hustle and bustle of Jackson.
The trail is lined with more than natural beauty, though. It’s also lined with some great detours. Three parks - Belhaven Heights Park, Laurel Street Park, and LeFleur's Bluff State Park – are situated along the trail.
