It’s pretty common knowledge that Elvis Presley hails from the Magnolia State. Nearly as known is the fact that fans can visit his former home in Tupelo. However, many are unaware that the house in Tupelo wasn’t Elvis’ only Mississippi abode. In the 1960s, the King of Rock and Roll owned a ranch in north Mississippi for a short period. It’s true, and it’s actually where he and Priscilla spent their honeymoon! Fondly dubbed the Elvis Ranch in Mississippi, take a look at what makes Circle G Ranch such a special place.
Circle G Ranch, which is located in Horn Lake, spans a whopping 231 acres. The expansive piece of property is bound to catch anyone’s eye, and that’s exactly what happened in 1967, when Elvis spotted the ranch while on a motorcycle ride.
Elvis was instantly enamored with the ranch, which was then known as Twinkletown Farm. He also believed that the 55’ white cross situated on the property was a good sign, so he immediately purchased the ranch for $437,000.
The ranch, which was only about 10 miles from Graceland, provided the perfect escape from the limelight for Elvis and Priscilla. This was especially true during the couple’s honeymoon.
Elvis went to great lengths to ensure his and Priscilla’s wedding remained a private affair; however, word of the wedding leaked, and at the last minute, the nuptials were moved to Las Vegas.
Following their foiled wedding plans, the couple spent a few days in Palm Springs and then went to Memphis before escaping to Circle G Ranch for the next two years.
It wasn’t just Elvis and Priscilla staying at the ranch, though. Within a short period of time, an entire staff as well as close friends were living at Circle G Ranch – and that’s in addition to horses and cattle.
The King’s time at the ranch came to an end in 1972, when he sold it. And though Elvis hasn’t owned the property for decades, his presence can still be found there – as the legend goes, he lost his wedding band on the ranch and it has never been recovered.
