1. Buccaneer State Park (Waveland)
Located in Waveland, Buccaneer State Park is rich in coastal beauty and recreational opportunities. Offering fun year-round, the grounds include a 4.5-acre waterpark, nature trail, playground, and disc golf course. 2. J.P. Coleman State Park (Iuka)
Definitely deserving of being deemed one of the state’s best camping spots, J.P. Coleman State Park has a lot going for it, especially in the way of water-related fun. In addition to access to the Tennessee River, the park boasts a freshwater lake and a 50-foot waterfall. 3. Lake Lowndes State Park (Columbus)
The highlight of this beautiful park is definitely its namesake lake. Spanning 150 acres, it’s a favorite of fishermen and water skiers. But the lake isn’t all the park has to offer. Other amenities include picnic areas, tennis courts, nature trails, and camping, of course. In addition to 50 developed campsites and a scenic wooded tent camping area, there are cabins and cottages.
4. Paul B. Johnson State Park (Hattiesburg)
Brimming with undeniable beauty, Paul B. Johnson State Park is filled with forests of loblolly pines, dogwoods, and ancient oaks. A picturesque backdrop isn’t all you’ll find at the park, though. There are also plenty of opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors, including a lakeside beach, a 5,000-square-foot splash pad, and nature trails. The park’s perks also include 125 RV campsites, 25 primitive campsites, cabins, cottages, and a group camp facility – all of which offer lovely lake views. 5. Percy Quin State Park (McComb)
One of the first state parks to be constructed in Mississippi, Percy Quin State Park not only boasts beautiful scenery but also provides several amenities for guests’ enjoyment. There are picnic tables, grills, playgrounds, a swimming pool, a freshwater lake, tennis courts, a game room, and even an 18-hole golf course. The accommodation options are just as varied and include 100 RV campsites, 27 cabins, cottages, golf villas, motel rooms, and a group camp facility.
6. Tombigbee State Park (Tupelo)
Offering the finest in outdoor recreation opportunities, yet located just minutes from the city of Tupelo, visitors to this park can experience the best of both worlds. Whether spending the day on the park’s 120-acre Lake Lee or venturing into town to visit the Elvis Presley birthplace, there’s plenty to see and do while at Tombigbee State Park – and that includes camping. Offering accommodations for campers of all kinds, the park features developed campsites for RVs and tents, primitive sites, cabins, a cottage, and a group camp facility.
7. Roosevelt State Park (Morton)
When it comes to amazing scenery, it doesn’t get much better than Roosevelt State Park. Great views abound thanks to the park’s scenic overlook, which provides a panoramic view of the nearby Bienville National Forest. Aside from the sights, the park offers a variety of recreational activities as well as several camping and lodging options, including RV and primitive tent sites, cabins, a motel, and a group camp facility.
