The Oldest Operating Dairy Queen In Minnesota Has Been Serving Mouthwatering Hot Dogs And Ice Cream For More Than 75 Years
Minnesota-based International Dairy Queen has been serving hot eats and cool treats to customers worldwide for decades. Two locations vie for the title of oldest operating Dairy Queen in Minnesota — and neither is about to concede. The oldest DQ franchises in the North Star state have satisfied their customers with delicious treats and snacks since 1947.
The North Broadway Dairy Queen in Rochester has been in business since 1947.
Unsurprisingly, it, too, claims the title of the first Dairy Queen in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. At one point, there was concern that this location's distinctive building would be demolished and replaced with a more modern facility. Fortunately, the original building is still standing.
You'll find friendly faces to greet you at either location.
The Rochester location has been owned by the same family since it opened. The Roseville location has changed hands a couple of times, but it's still a family-run business.
Behind the scenes, both stores maintain the Dairy Queen quality and consistency their customers have come to expect.
The Rochester store boasts a local menu, with some items you may not find elsewhere.
In Minnesota, we’re pretty lucky to have two oldest operating Dairy Queens. Folks in the southern part of the state will certainly want to visit the Rochester location; the Roseville store, of course, is closer for those who live in the Cities. Have you visited either of these DQs? What’s your favorite Dairy Queen or quick-serve ice cream shop?
Why not take a road trip and visit both of these Dairy Queen locations – and hit up a few of the state’s best ice cream shops on the way?
