Marvel At Dozens Of Sculptures At Minnesota’s Most Magical Ice Festival This Winter
The St. Paul Winter Carnival, a regular event for more than a century, is the oldest winter festival in the United States – and it’s also home to one of the largest annual collections of ice sculptures in Minnesota.

The winter carnival has been a near-annual event since 1886, interrupted only by national crises like World War II.

St. Paul’s Rice Park is ground zero for ice sculptures, including the entries in the carnival’s multi-block ice sculpting competition.

Until they melt, anyway.

On major anniversaries, however, you can count on a castle fit for King Boreas.

Be sure to make time for a visit to the Vulcan Snow Park, typically held at the State Fairgrounds during the carnival.

Although the St. Paul Winter Carnival is the oldest and largest wintertime festival in the Land of 10,000 (frozen) Lakes, it’s certainly not the only one – nor the only one that features ice or snow sculptures. So be sure to put some of these other wonderful Minnesota winter festivals on your to-do list.
