Anyone who's ever been to Winona, Minnesota, is aware of the city's beauty. From its place along the Mississippi River, it boasts high bluffs, lovely parks, and a charming downtown. It's easy to find things to do both indoors and out, from browsing local shops to hiking at Great River Bluffs State Park. These are great options, but we'd like to introduce one of the city's lesser-known spots today. Holzinger Lodge Trail is a beautiful trek through Winona's natural landscape. You'll find beautiful wildflowers and amazing views along the way. Take a look:
Holzinger Lodge Trail is a 12-mile trail in Winona, Minnesota. Visitors can access the trail from the parking lot of the Holzinger Lodge.
Because the trail is 12 miles, visitors should be aware that it will likely take all day to explore the entire path. There are also some steep sections, so be sure to wear appropriate shoes.
If you visit during the warmer months, you're likely to see some lovely wildflowers along the way. They are especially prominent in springtime.
As you continue walking, the path will begin to climb. Clearings will give way to beautiful views of grassy hills and the tops of trees.
Walk even further and the trees will part...
...and you'll have a gorgeous view of the city below with tree-covered hills in the distance! Though this trail can be rugged in some areas, it's a great way to enjoy a day in a lesser-known nature space.
