Fall in Minnesota is full of great activities. You can spend your day enjoying fall foliage train rides, touring apple orchards, and soaking in the last rays of sunshine before winter hits. These activities are all good fun, but it’s even more fun to do something out of the ordinary. That’s where the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum comes in. Each year, they open up their AppleHouse to the public. Here, you can buy new types of apples developed by the University of Minnesota. Some have never before been sold in stores, making this a great way to taste something totally new that was made right here in Minnesota. Sound good? The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is a beautiful garden in Chaska, Minnesota. It covers around 1,200 acres and contains many woodlands, prairies, and marshes, as well as many beautiful maintained gardens.

The arboretum is wonderful to visit at any time of year. There are always beautiful plants on display, as well as many activities, special exhibits and events, and more. Fall brings plenty of beauty in warm-toned flower displays, pumpkins, and apples.

The AppleHouse is a truly special part of the arboretum's fall traditions. In 2021, it's now open daily through November 5, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

But what is the AppleHouse? For starters, it's a place to buy freshly picked, in-season apples. There are different kinds all the time, and guests are welcome to call ahead to find out what's for sale on any given day.

The AppleHouse sells apples grown by the University of Minnesota. The university has a long tradition of developing new apple varieties. These include super-popular honeycrisp apples, as well as SweeTango, Zestar, and more.

When you visit the AppleHouse, you can take home varieties that have never been sold commercially before. Some of them do not even have names! Proceeds support continuing research at the Arboretum.

In addition to brand-new apple varieties grown right here in Minnesota, there are plenty of other great things at the AppleHouse. You can find apple cider, frozen apple pies, and fall decor items. If you're lucky, you'll show up when North Star Mini Donuts is there serving up apple cider donuts. If you're looking for a fun way to spend a fall day, pay this place a visit!
