One unique trail near Detroit will have you returning time and time again.
Barton Nature Area is located along West Huron River Drive in Ann Arbor. This awesome and locally beloved space can be reached by car from Detroit in approximately 40 minutes, so it’s an ideal day trip locale.
There are 98 wondrous acres to appreciate throughout the nature area, which envelops the beautiful Huron River and features an assortment of habitats. The park remains open daily between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.
If you’re a fan of experiencing the great outdoors on foot, you’ve come to the perfect place. Many guests appreciate the streamlined 1.2-mile main trail, while others enjoy a 2.4 mile loop through the area.
No matter which path you choose, you’ll be greeted by beautiful foliage in all seasons and some of the most unique surroundings imaginable. In fact, there are two bridges here that span the Huron River itself.
Between each bridge, you’ll meander through wetlands, shrublands, old fields, prairies, and so much more. Whether you’re here in the midst of winter or on a hot summer day, the atmosphere won’t disappoint.
If these bridges and natural wonders weren’t enough, there’s a marvelous man-made gem to appreciate at Barton Nature Area: Barton Dam, which can actually be walked upon via the nature center’s trails.
During your visit, you might even spot local wildlife throughout the nature area. From beautiful birds to playful squirrels and everything in between, there’s plenty to see – and dogs are even allowed on leash.
