There are many well-known celebrities from Detroit such as Diana Ross, Jack White, and Eminem. But three famous celebrities hail from small towns in Michigan that are just as spectacular as the VIPs themselves. While Motor City may be what most out-of-towners think of as Michigan, Michiganders know that small towns are what make up the amazing Mitten State. Here are a few celebrities from Michigan you've most certainly heard of:
1. Kate Upton, St. Joseph
Famous model and actress Kate Upton was scouted at the young age of 12 and has starred on the cover of many magazines worldwide. Before her modeling debut, Kate was born in the quaint Lake Michigan city of St. Joseph.
St. Joseph is a picturesque West Michigan beach town with a population of 7,500 residents. If you’re looking for the perfect place to shop small, swim in Lake Michigan, hunt for beach glass, or ride a historic carousel, St Joseph has it all.
2. Kid Rock, Romeo
Michigan’s summer anthem is Kid Rock’s “All Summer Long” about spending summertime in Northern Michigan. Kid Rock does hail from the Great Lake State and has owned homes throughout Michigan. He's also one of the most famous people from Michigan.
Kid Rock grew up in the little village of Romeo which is located in Southeast Michigan and has 3,500 residents. The adorable town is idyllic with tree-lined streets, downtown shopping, and lovely historic architecture. But the charming village of Romeo comes alive for Halloween to scare visitors with spooky displays down Tillson Street.
3. Taylor Lautner, Hudsonville
Taylor Lautner, one of the most famous Michigan celebrities, is well-known for portraying the shapeshifting werewolf Jacob Black in the blockbuster movie franchise Twilight. But before making it on the big screen, Taylor grew up in the small city of Hudsonville.
Hudsonville is a city of just over 7,000 residents in the West Michigan area. The farming community is known as “Michigan’s salad bowl” as carrots, celery, onions, and other crops are grown in the area. There is a vintage market called the Farmgirl Flea Market that is hosted at the Hudsonville fairgrounds and you’ll definitely want to visit this spring or fall.
