One of my favorite summertime activities is taking a trip to the beach with family and friends. I can easily spend a whole day playing in the sand and splashing in the surf. Because warm beach days in New England are limited, I have found that many of the popular beaches can get very busy and crowded with visitors. When I want to spend a quieter time on the shore, I head for a more secluded spot to relax. Massachusetts has some great hidden beach gems and Siasconset Beach is one of these.

Siasconset Beach (also known as Sconset Beach) is a remote spot located in the eastern part of the island of Nantucket.

The beach is wide and flat and it is typically not overcrowded with tourists. The dunes and sandy shore make it a very picturesque location. There is some parking available at the beach, but you can also get there via the NRTA shuttle. More adventurous beachgoers may choose to bike the six miles from town.
It is a beautiful place to spend a quiet day relaxing in the sun.

Along the way, you will see a mix of modest cottages and expensive homes. A short detour off the trail will bring you to the Sankaty Head Lighthouse. Please be aware that there is often poison ivy in the area.
The current at the beach can be strong at times. There is typically a lifeguard on duty during the summer season. Restrooms and food are available nearby.

If you are spending your beach day with little ones, be sure to stop at the nearby Codfish Park Playground.

If you are looking to enjoy all that the island of Nantucket has to offer, I suggest staying for at least a few days. Ferry service to the island is available from a number of locations in Massachusetts including Hyannis and Oak Bluffs. The Salt House Nantucket is a fantastic place to stay when visiting the island. For some great food and a bit of nostalgia, be sure to also stop by the soda counter at the Nantucket Pharmacy
