Hiking is a popular activity for all Bay Staters, as Massachusetts is home to some of the most beautiful hikes in the nation. However, it can be hard to get hyped up for a hike in the dead of winter. Deep inside Blue Hills Reservation near Canton, you'll find a majestic trail that won't take too much out of you, and it's a sight to see even when covered in snow. Ponkapoag Pond Trail is an easy loop trail that's beautiful all year long, but some would argue it's even better in the winter months. Let's get on our snowshoes and get ready to see an enchanting winter wonderland via Ponkapoag Pond Trail in the Blue Hills Reservation.
Welcome to Ponkapoag Pond Trail!
This easy hike is located in the Blue Hills Reservation. While this beautiful slice of nature is home to more than 125 miles of trails, this little loop hike is one of the best.
Ponkapoag Pond Trail starts at Ponkapoag Golf Course and takes you on a 3.75-mile loop that's relaxed and breathtaking.
Even though this hike isn't the shortest, the trail is fairly flat. Overall, it should take you under 3 hours to complete.
This easy trail is beautiful all year long, but it offers a special kind of enchantment in the winter. As the trees and pond turn to ice, this area truly turns into a winter wonderland.
Within this hike, you'll find boardwalks that go over a bog. This area of the Blue Hills offers some of the most incredible marshlands, and they transform in the winter.
This trail is dog-friendly, and shouldn't be too hard for most children. To ensure that you don't wander off the trail, you can pick up a map at the Reservation Headquarters when you arrive at Blue Hills.
Don't let the cold get you down, Bay Staters. There are still beautiful hiking opportunities in the dead of winter, and Ponkapoag Pond Trail in Blue Hills Reservation might just be the best of them all.
