If you enjoy trekking through mountainous terrain with a reward of panoramic views at the summit, consider Laura's Tower Trail in the charming historic town of Stockbridge, Massachusetts.
Nestled in the Berkshires in the town of Stockbridge, Laura's Tower Trail is a 1.8-mile out-and-back trail that is rated moderate.
There is an overall elevation gain of 649 feet, so be prepared for steeper climbs in some areas.
This is not your average hike through the woods as there are many fascinating things to see along the way. You will first cross a lovely bridge that spans across the Housatonic River.
You'll then cross over a set of old railroad tracks before heading straight into the woods filled with pine and hemlock trees, and eventually, birch and laurel which create an enchanted feel along the way.
If you decide to take the shorter Ice Glen Trail as well, you can trek through the area of boulder outcroppings known as Ice Glen. If you have children with you, they may have fun climbing these giant rocks!
Once you reach the summit, you'll see a 30-foot metal tower. Climb up and enjoy the views!
From the top of the tower, you will be able to view quite a bit of the Berkshires including Mount Greylock. On the clearest of days, you can even see the Catskills of New York and the Green Mountains of Vermont.
