Love is in the air, but man it’s cold outside! February is the perfect time to get out and enjoy a cozy, intimate dinner with someone you love. If you are looking for a warm place with great food and a quaint atmosphere, you can’t go wrong with the Red Lion Tavern in Cohasset.
The Red Lion Tavern is a cozy restaurant that serves fantastic New England fare. The tavern is located within the historic Red Lion Inn, which dates back to 1704!
Be sure not to confuse it with the Red Lion Inn and Restaurant in Stockbridge.
The tavern is simply charming. Rustic fireplaces and wood tables add to the cozy, warm atmosphere of this special spot.
The restaurant has a variety of seating areas including the main dining room, Winter Garden Room, pub area, and outside patio.
If you are looking to host a private gathering of up to 16 people, you can reserve the restaurant’s Yellow Room.
This space is rustic and intimate and contains an interesting historical feature. There is a trap door in the middle of the floor which used to connect to a tunnel leading to the harbor. It may have once been part of the Underground Railroad.
The Red Lion Tavern not only has an incredible atmosphere, but it also turns out some wonderful meals. The restaurant is open for dinner and Sunday brunch.
Favorite brunch choices include the Jonah Eggs Benedict, Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich, and Breakfast Carbonara.
Pair any of these delectable meals with a mimosa or house Bloody Mary and your day is off to a great start!
The dinner menu is just as delicious and is filled with homemade pasta, fresh seafood, and flavorful steak and poultry dishes. The Casco Bay Monkfish, Sweet Potato Gnocchi, and Prime N.Y. Sirloin all sound like wonderful choices to me!
The Tavern typically has special menus for holidays, including Valentine’s Day.
When you are done with your meal, you can cozy up to the bar and enjoy some wine or a delicious cocktail. It is a great place to keep warm on a cold winter night.
And if you visit on a Thursday evening, you can head over to “The Cave.” This special part of the tavern features live music and entertainment.
Have you had a warm, cozy meal at The Red Lion Tavern? If so, we would love to hear all about your experience. For up-to-date hours and menu selection, please visit The Red Lion Tavern website and The Red Lion Tavern Facebook page.
If your dinner is part of a longer trip to Cohasset, I suggest staying the night right at The Red Lion Inn Resort 1704. More cozy dining spots in Massachusetts include Champney’s Restaurant in Deerfield and The Prairie Whale in Great Barrington. Bogie’s Place in Boston is also a delicious adults-only steak restaurant.
