Massachusetts isn't exactly lacking in the waterfront department. We have gorgeous coastal beaches, beautiful lakeshores and picturesque harbors. However, Revere Beach has a unique vibe all its own. Between an impressive history and amazing events for the whole family, there are a plenty of reasons to make this North Shore beach part of your summer itinerary.
Revere Beach was the first public beach in America and it hasn’t gotten any less amazing with age.
Revere Beach Reservation was established in 1896. The beach itself was designed by Charles Eliot and Frederick Law Olmstead, the same firm that created New York's Central Park and the grounds of the the Capitol in Washington D.C.
It faces Massachusetts Bay and features a soft crescent of white sand that makes it the perfect swimming beach.
Sunbathing may be the most popular activity at Revere Beach, but this nearby Bell Isle is a great place for fishing, canoeing or sea kayaking.
This beach is also special because of its insanely amazing sand sculpture competition.
Over 900,000 spectators come to check out the International Sand Sculpting Festival each summer. The massive sculptures are constructed right on the beach over the course of three days. Some truly spectacular works of art emerge from the sand at this family-friendly event. This year's festival will be held July 21-23.
The festival features food trucks and live entertainment, but there's plenty do and see nearby all year round.
Head to nearby Suffolk Downs to catch some simulcast horse racing action and enjoy a delicious dinner, or scoot over to neighboring Chelsea and go ice skating at Cronin Rink.
Revere Beach also recently got top marks for water quality, which means the water is sparkling and clear.
That gorgeous water is as clean as it looks, which makes for a worry-free and fun beach day. There's nothing like wading into the beautiful waters here on a hot day.
No matter when you visit Revere Beach, you're sure to have a great time at this historic American beach.
Everyone should make time to visit beautiful Revere Beach this summer. The dates for the 2017 International Sand Sculpting Festival are July 21-23.
