While Maryland may seem quite large given its vast variety of natural beauty, there’s actually a gorgeous bike trail that links the cities of Baltimore and Annapolis and it is both wonderfully accessible and bursting with gorgeous scenery. The trail itself is just over 13 miles, which can seem daunting at first, but it’s such a smooth ride that it actually makes for a perfectly doable day trip! You’ll start off at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, just on the outskirts of Baltimore, where you’ll be able to watch the planes take off and land as you begin your journey — or end it if you plan to make a round trip!

This scenic bike trail cuts through woods, across railroads, and has several bridges that pass over highways.

The trail is well-cared for and mostly flat until you reach Annapolis where you'll encounter some hills.

At about the halfway mark, you’ll find the Earleigh Heights Ranger Station. It was built in 1899 and was several things - a general store, a post office, and a train station, among others.

Currently, it’s a well-outfitted stop for a quick recharge before you continue.

It’s maintained year-round, so whether you’re looking for a way to spend an early summer morning or enjoy the changing colors of the autumn leaves, the trail is always an excellent choice.

You’ll move from wooded pathways to suburban areas to more rural spots where you just might be able to see some cows enjoying the weather as much as you are - maybe a bit more, if we’re being honest.

And, if you started at the north entrance, you’ll end the day in Arnold, right across the river from Annapolis.

Our bet is you’ll be ready to grab some seafood and a beer and relax by the water after an invigorating ride!
