There's no need to hike for hours to reach a scenic overlook in Maryland. Just head to High Rock in the Smithsburg area and prepare for a whole lot of beauty.

When we say that there's no hiking required, we mean it. The overlook is right next to the road! Just find a parking spot and you're all set.

High Rock overlooks sprawling farmland and rolling mountains in the distance. It's perfect for a day trip...

...or for an evening trip! The colorful sky just before sunset adds even more beauty to the overlook.

Note that this spot does tend to be busier on the weekends so if you want to avoid crowds, head there during weekdays. There are also occasional graffiti clean-ups that may temporarily close the area from time to time.

Lastly, use caution! High Rock is a beautiful place to sit and admire the scenery but please don't get too close to the edge, and remember to wear shoes with good tread.
