Maine is one of the best places to be if you love nature, the outdoors and wildlife. In fact, it’s not uncommon to come across a moose, a grouse (be careful, we’ve seen them attack!) or any number of sea creatures depending on where you choose to spend your free time in the outdoors. But, if you want to make a day of it, there’s no better place to visit than this wildlife park in Maine!

The Maine Wildlife Park in Gray offers an opportunity for visitors to learn more about the animals and plants that exist within the state.

This special park is nothing like a zoo and the animals live here for a variety of reasons all related to their ultimate well being.

They all roam free throughout the park to help ensure that their lives feel as natural as possible.

In fact, the plants and areas that house them have been created keeping their natural habitats in mind.

Most of the animals here can’t be released back into the wild due to permanent injuries, their land being taken over by humans or because they were born in captivity.

In the park, visitors are invited to follow a map around the impressive and walkable park, allowing them to watch the animals without disturbing them.

The park does a wonderful job of education, including the flora and fauna found in Maine.

Areas such as the Tree Trail teach visitors about local Maine Trees.
And, the Wetland Trail allows visitors to experience fish, turtles and birds.

Running throughout the park are opportunities to purchase small healthy snacks for bear, deer, pheasants, ducks, geese, and turkeys.
The Maine Wildlife Park also works to educate visitors about the history of Maine, including native lands and people.

There are tons of volunteers that make this place what it is. Each cares deeply for the land and the animals. This love shines through to all who visit!
Maine Wildlife Park is closed during the colder Maine months, but will open again for 2018 on Saturday, April 14, weather permitting. The park is open daily from 9:30am to 5pm.
