When most people hear "food court" images of the mall come to mind. While we certainly won't say anything bad about Panda Express (hello, free samples!) we do have a better option for you to try. And it's right in Portland! The next time you're in the Old Port area, consider taking a detour to Monument Square, where you'll find this unexpected spot with more food choices than you might expect!

The Public Market House is located in Monument Square, in the old Haymarket Row buildings.

The location is the site of the old Portland Public Market, making it a special piece of history. When the original market closed in 2006, Monument Square was the perfect home for new iteration of this community focused gathering space.

The market's mission is to provide a space that celebrates Maine people, food and the small business owners that make it thrive.

That thriving feel is felt immediately upon walking inside.

Shoppers will find an ample wine and beer selection, as well as a gourmet provisions counter.

These vendors are K. Horton Specialty Foods and Maine Beer & Beverage Company.

Fun Fact! Maine Beer & Beverage Company is the only place you can buy liquor at a store in downtown Portland!

While the downstairs is great for a quick trip, the upstairs is our favorite!

One of the best features of the Public Market is the friendly vibe and non-crowded feel.

In fact, every time we've been here we've avoided lines AND had a place to sit.

The quiet vibes of the upstairs food court make it great for small meetings and homework sessions.
