Officially Open For The Season, This Seafood Joint In Maine Has Been Around Since 1927

Ken's Place in Scarborough, Maine, is a nearly 100-year-old seafood spot known for its fresh shellfish and classic diner feel.

It's not uncommon to hear Mainers argue about which season is the best. You might expect most people to claim it's summer. With the green forests and the most picturesque coast and beaches, we can see their point. Others love autumn and taking long drives as the leaves change. We think every season is a beauty here, but our favorite season is seafood season! That's when the seasonal food spots around the state open their doors when the temperatures rise and stay open until the leaves fall. The spot we're featuring today is one of the first to open for the season and you can bet that we'll be there as often as we can before winter!

There's a lot to love about eating seafood in Maine, but Ken's Place in Scarborough might offer some of the best reasons!

To start, this southern Maine institution located on Pine Point Road heading towards Pine Point Beach has been around for nearly 100 years! That's a lot of time to perfect the art of serving seafood to picky Mainers and the tourists that flock here.

With age has come perfection, but it also means a classic look and feel. Part diner, part seafood shack, and part drive-in, Ken's Place feels like what you might expect to see in a movie. And eating here is simple.

Walk into the covered dining area to read the menu. It's simple but huge, offering everything from fried platters to burgers.

This is a great place to visit on your way back from the beach when you're hungry enough to really dig in! Just look at the size of this meal.

We love visiting with a group to allow for lots of options. The portions are huge, which means sharing is a must.

While things here are fast and easy, the food tastes like it's coming from the kitchen of a more upscale spot. The fresh shellfish is incredible.

Lobsters are caught fresh and served with lots of melted butter along with a side of fries and a roll.

If you're more adventurous with your lobster, try the homemade lobster stew.

Those who want the true Maine experience shouldn't even think about visiting Ken's Place without ordering the lobster roll.

Once you've ordered, plan on digging into your meal under the lights of a warm night in Maine. There's simply no way to match this experience, which means you're going to have to visit!

Ken's Place is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. You can learn more about them by following them on Facebook. They can be reached on 207-883-6611.
