One of the things we love most about the state of Maine is the hardworking folks who live here! These are the people that make some of our favorite shops and restaurants possible. And, in this case, these are the folks who have created one of the most wonderful little general stores we've ever seen. Located on a working farm, this little place is worth visiting from anywhere in the state.
Make your way to the midcoast and then wind your way to Whitefield and you'll find a very special farm.
Owned by Ben and Taryn Marcus, opening Sheepscot General was part of the deal when they first began renting the land of Uncas Farms back in 2009. Since then, the store has become a major community hub and they've since purchased the land.
Located in a beautiful setting, the general store is so much more than just a place to stock up on supplies.
Though, they do have quite a selection of anything you might need.
Including household items and quite a few different kinds of wine.
And while folks might come here to shop, they stay for the bustling cafe that offers a true sense of community.
In fact, the cafe was opened after realizing that so many people gravitating to the store and ended up spending significant time here.
Today, the cafe serves a large menu filled with ingredients that come right from the farm.
Their bread specials are not to be missed.
And the daily pizzas and other hot food are homemade with love.
Grab a sandwich and a drink, spot a friend and plan on spending at least an hour here catching up.
We love that community events take place throughout the year, from yoga to group meetings.
Throughout the state you'll find special places that buzz with the excitement that can only be found in a small town. And Sheepscot General Store and Farm is a great example of this energy!
The Sheepscot General Store and Farm is typically open Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. They're closed on Monday. You can learn more about them on their website, or you can follow them on Facebook. You can reach them on 207-549-5185.
