Have A Wild Adventure At The Little-Known Accredited Animal Sanctuary Located Here In Maine

While we love going on hikes to appreciate the great outdoors of Maine, let’s not forget that there are actually a lot of ways to get closer to the natural world in Vacationland. This animal sanctuary is home to a variety of animals that you might not have the chance to see. And the best part is that they’re totally safe and cared for.

For the opportunity to learn all about animals and wildlife, you’ll want to head straight to The Maine Wildlife Park in Gray. It offers a chance to get up-close-and-personal with some of the most incredible animals in the state.

There are more than 30 species of local wildlife in the park. The animals here cannot be returned to their natural habitats for various reasons ranging from being injured or orphaned to being dependent on humans because they were forced to live in captivity. Sadly, this was sometimes due to illegal activity.

Many of the animals here were brought by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife team to be safely cared for by the park Gamekeepers.

And visitors are allowed, which means you can see and learn all about these special animals.

You’ll see everything from Maine moose to peacocks! And many of the animals simply roam free throughout the park.

You’ll find areas that mimic natural settings allowing animals to feel right at home.

Visitors are provided with a map that allows for easy navigation. And the park is quite walkable which means you can follow the animals without disturbing their normal life and activity.

More than just a day trip, this is a place you’ll come back to over and over again!

In between all the beautiful animals you’ll also find a fun Tree Trail meant to educate visitors on local Maine trees.

And the Wetland Trail is home to birds, fish and turtles.

We also love how interactive the park is. You’ll have the chance to feed animals and take part in events that occur throughout the season. Have a question? Feel free to ask one of the wardens in the park.

Maine Wildlife Park is open during the season from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You can learn more about them through their website or visit them on Facebook.
