As we inch closer to spring with each passing day, it’s impossible to avoid thinking about the sunny days and warm breezes that are in our future. Many people say that the reason to live in Maine year-round is the reward of these coming few months and I have to say I agree. While we’ve been lucky enough to have some lovely spring-like days this winter, there’s nothing like that first REAL summer afternoon. To help you prepare, we’ve compiled a list of some great outdoor dining options. Because, if that first summer day is great, enjoying it outside with a meal and a beer is even better!

The only thing better than the view at Portland Lobster Company are the lobster rolls. And, the only thing better than the lobster rolls is the summertime live music on the deck. Head here for some typical Maine seafood or just enjoy drinks while dancing under the stars. Don't let the name fool you. Mine Oyster is more than just the delicious oysters. You can enjoy a full menu that you'd expect at any restaurant this popular. The three outdoor seating areas are perfect for looking out over the harbor while you enjoy everything from lobster mac and cheese to chowder. And, the service gets top ratings as well. If you're in Belfast on a sunny day, stop into Three Tides for some outdoor drinks and great food. And, as a bonus, you can grab a delicious growler of their fresh brewed beer. The outdoor seating at Marriner's looks out directly over the harbor, which is enough for me. But, if you go to restaurants for the food, you won't be disappointed either! A list of outdoor dining in Maine could easily just include waterfront seafood joints, but that would be boring. So, we give you Mainly Meat in Bar Harbor. Close enough to the water to keep you happy, but enough of a departure from seafood to appeal to the landlubbers. Mainely Meats made its way on our list for their perfectly downhome backyard, featuring afternoon live music and casual vibes. If you're really hungry, order the max plate - a heaping portion of chicken, ribs, shredded pork and sausage, along with three sides. Oh! The Looking Glass is part of the Bluenose Inn, but don't write it off as a hotel restaurant just yet. One trip to the outdoor deck and you'll realize that this isn't your run-of-the-mill place in a hotel. A unique pub in Portland, this place is a bit off the beaten path if you tend to stick to the Old Port. Check it out for an awesome beer list and to try (or at least watch someone else try!) the Almighty Cheesus Burger. This burger wedged between two grilled cheese sandwiches is nothing if not unique.
