Dr. Wagner’s Honey Island Swamp Tours has been around since 1982.
Located just a short drive outside of New Orleans over in Slidell, this is the go-to destination when you’re wanting to take a swamp tour.
On your tour, your knowledgeable tour guide will tell you fascinating stories about the history of the area and its importance to our ecosystems.
Honey Island actually earned its name because of the honeybees that were once on a nearby island. The island itself is about 15-20 miles long and is home to scores of wildlife.
Keep your eyes peeled, because you’ll have the opportunity to see tons of wildlife.
This is the perfect time of year to spot alligators. In addition, you may also see deer, a variety of species of birds, turtles, and wolves. There have even been sightings of the Florida cougar in the area. There’s also an active bald eagle nest that dates back to 1910, so don’t forget to bring your camera.
You’ll be surrounded by beautiful cypress trees, Spanish moss swaying the breeze, and overall some truly breathtaking scenery.
