New Orleans was recently named one of the best places for food in the country--and I'm not surprised at all. There's such an incredible tradition of delicious food in this city and it lives on as new restaurants pop up all the time. Below is a list of some of the absolute best places, both expensive and inexpensive, relaxed and fancy. See how many you've tried!
1) Avery’s, 2510 Tulane Ave.
Avery's made its name by this creation, the buffalo shrimp po-boy that is absolutely delicious. But all the rest of the NOLA favorites found here are just as good. I love this place when I just want down home NOLA food for not too much money.
2) Blue Oak BBQ, 900 N. Carrolton St.
While BBQ has not always been a calling card of New Orleans, many places have been popping up flipping that script. Blue Oak BBQ, who used to have a pop up in Chickie Wah Wah, offers up perfectly cooked meat plates night after night.
3) Cavan, 3607 Magazine St.
One of the newest restaurants on this list, Cavan has made waves for their innovative and delicious cuisine in a relatively laid back atmosphere. It's delicious!
4) Hoa Hong 9 Nine Roses, 1100 Stephens St.
This Vietnamese restaurant on the Westbank goes beyond the traditional fare and offers dishes you won't find at any other Vietnamese restaurant. My favorite is the cane flavored catfish dishes, but nothing on the menu here will disappoint.
5) Parkway Bakery and Tavern, 538 Hagan Ave.
While parkway began their reputation for their roast beef po-boys that bulge over the bread, there is so much deliciousness to be had here. The sweet potato fries and gumbo are both awesome.
6) Munch Factory, 6325 Elysian Fields Ave.
This newer Gentilly establishment is family owned and run and it shows through and through. You'll feel like one of the family when you walk in here and the food is so lovingly made you won't be able to go home unhappy.
7) Café Reconcile, 1631 Oretha C Haley St.
This amazing restaurant offers up New Orleans favorites with a cause---it's a training ground for youth looking for restaurant job skills. So you can feel good about yourself while you are enjoying some of the best eats anywhere!
8) Lil Dizzy’s, 1500 Esplanade Ave.
There's no doubt about it--the brunch buffet here is legendary. There's no where else I know where you can get a full omelette made to order on top of every kind of breakfast meat, grits, fried chicken, and so much more. It's so delicious--you better get there early and hungry.
9) MoPho, 514 City Park Ave.
This unique asian fusion restaurant has taken the staples of vietnamese food and put a new twist on them, serving up juicy spring rolls and lemongrass chicken wings that will simply satisfy you. The drinks here are also amazing!
10) Surrey’s Café & Juice Bar, 1418 Magazine St.
Get ready to stand in line for the amazing breakfast options here, where there is full spectrum of veggie and healthy options alongside NOLA favorites. Wash it all down with a fresh glass of juice--you can't go wrong!
11) Bayona, 430 Dauphine St.
This upscale hideaway is run by Susan Spicer and has been offering delicately spiced and lovingly prepared french cuisine with a New Orleans twist. The romantic, cozy atmosphere makes it the perfect choice for a fancy New Orleans meal.
12) Boswell’s Jamaican Restaurant, 3521 Tulane Ave.
It might be easy to overlook this delicious spot on Tulane Ave, but you would be making a big mistake. The food here is divine and will make you feel like you are on the island!
13) Peche Seafood Grill, 800 Magazine St.
The way they prepare fish here is truly amazing, creative and astounding combinations that are certain to delight your senses.
