Stories of hauntings abound in New Orleans, there is no doubt about that. But not all haunted places are created equal--some really stand out among the rest. After searching all of the top haunted blogs and doing research, we've found six of the most haunted places in the city. Explore if you dare!
1) The Mortuary, 4800 Canal St.
Now one of the most popular haunted attractions in New Orleans, this building was a funeral parlor for over 80 years hosting thousands of funerals over the years. It's even reported that 3-5 funerals could be hosted here at the same time.
2) Omni Royal Orleans, 621 St. Louis Street
This hotel is located at what was once the largest market for the slave trade in all of New Orleans. The words "exchange" can still be made out in the sidewalk here, and ghosts who had their lives ripped apart here still haunt the halls. This was also the location where Zach Brown killed himself after killing and dismembering his girlfriend's body just day before.
3) Pharmacy Museum, 514 Chartres St.
While this is now a popular attraction, the stories that surround the chief doctor here, Dr. Joseph Dupas, have freaked out people for decades, including stories of his medical experiments gone wrong in the building.
4) Charity Hospital, 1532 Tulane Ave.
Even before the ever evolving nightmare that was being stuck in Charity Hospital the days after Hurricane Katrina, there were lots of stories of this hospital being haunted, especially around the legendary psychiatric wards of this public hospital. Legends continued after lights were seen illuminating the inside of the hospital, years after it had been completely emptied and no one was allowed inside.
5) St. Roch Chapel in St. Roch Cemetery No 1, 1725 St. Roch Ave.
This haunted chapel is known as a shrine to St. Roch, who is seen as being particularly helpful for those afflicted with difficult diseases, physical disabilities, and rare disorders. Many make pilgrimage to this site or pray for his guidance, and the spirits of those who haven't been lucky enough to survive have been known to haunt the area.
