New Orleans is one of the oldest cities in America, and looking at these photos really gives you a sense of the history here. These New Orleans vintage photos are incredible to look at and remember what the city was like. Here are some of the most beautiful photos we've found of what New Orleans looked like 100 years ago.
1) Lee Circle, 1928
This scene from Lee Circle is a blast from the past.
2) Canal St. New Orleans, 1910
This turn of the century shot is amazing for its mix of modern and classic. The horse drawn carriages contrast with the power lines along the avenue.
3) Old Basin Canal, Circa 1905-1915
Flooding was an issue in New Orleans from the very beginning. Here is street flooding from an overflow of Old Basin Canal.
4) Bienville Towards Bourbon St., 1932
This photo shows the French Quarter of years past.
5) Canal St., 1907
Streetcars have traveled along this avenue for decades.
6) Esplanade Ave, 1900
Esplanade Ave. also had a streetcar down the middle in years past.
7) Holmes, Canal St., 1943
The iconic Holmes store on Canal St. mid-century. Okay, so not quite 100 years old but the war-time advertisements are amazing.
8) Map of New Orleans, 1849
The darkened areas on this map show where the Misisssippi River flooded the city in Sauve Crevasse of 1849.
9) Birds-Eye view of New Orleans, 1873
This view of the old Warehouse District shows the elevation of buildings at the turn of the century in New Orleans.
10) Tally Ho Club Chef Menteur, 1893
This club in Eastern New Orleans was destroyed in the Great Hurricane of 1915.
11) Cotton Exchange, 1903
This old building was demolished shortly after this photo was taken, due to building the new Cotton Exchange in 1920.
