Lake Fausse Pointe State Park is one of the most picture-perfect parks to spend an afternoon exploring. Located right in the heart of the Atchafalaya Basin, this is one of the most peaceful parks around, and it’s filled with some of the most peaceful hiking trails in Louisiana. There's even a paddle trail that will take you away from your troubles and enjoy a little peace and quiet. Let's check it out:
Clocking in around 6,000 acres, Lake Fausse Pointe State Park is one of the largest state parks in Louisiana.
Chicot State Park is the largest, covering 6,400 acres.
The eight-mile paddle trail is one of the most popular paddle trails in the state.
Paddling around the Atchafalaya Basin is one of the most scenic paddles in the country. You'll weave in an out of cypress trees while keeping an eye out for wildlife hugging the shoreline.
If you prefer your trails to be on land, Lake Fausse State Park has you covered.
There are three hiking trails here. The longest one is just over three miles, so you can easily mix and match to fit your schedule.
The trails are a mixture of boardwalk and dirt, giving you an opportunity to traverse over marsh and swampland you ordinarily wouldn't be able to.
Just look at the beauty of the boardwalk!
The enchanting emeralds and streams you'll come across will have you thinking you're in a Disney film, it's so beautiful!
The views along the trail are inspirational.
Especially if you time your journey during dawn or dusk.
While you're out there, be sure to keep an eye out for the wildlife in the area.
Gators are common sightings in the warmer months, and you'll often see them hugging the shoreline or hanging out on driftwood to sunbathe. As a general rule, don't mess with the wildlife and they won't mess with you!
If you're on the hunt for longer hiking trails in Louisiana, the 20-mile hiking trail at Chicot State Park is just the ticket.
