Louisianians can be quite particular about their gumbo. Whether you prefer an okra or file based, seafood or chicken and sausage, everyone has a favorite type of gumbo. Even though it may not be gumbo weather, it’s always a good time for a hearty bowl of gumbo. We’ve scoured the state and found some of the very best places to get gumbo, and made it into an epic road trip you can take.
1. Crawdaddy’s Kitchen
This family owned business may be known for crawfish, but do yourself a favor and try their oyster gumbo or their chicken and sausage gumbo. Seasoned to perfection, you’ll certainly be coming back for more.

2. Maglieaux’s Riverfront Restaurant
Voted one of the top 6 gumbos in the state by Louisiana Cookin’ Magazine, their hen and andouille gumbo is mouthwateringly good. If the weather is nice, be sure to sit outside where the view is amazing!

3. Mama Reta’s Kitchen
People can’t say enough positive things about this family run restaurant. Their gumbo is full of big, tender chunks of chicken and their andouille adds the perfect amount of spice to this Cajun classic.

4. Bon Creole
Bon Creole has been serving up hearty southern food for over 20 years. They’ve won awards for their gumbo, and once you try it you’ll understand why.

Owner David Billeaud comes from a long line of Cajun cooks, and he’s spent years in the kitchen making sure his recipes are top notch. Their hearty chicken and sausage gumbo will definitely fill you up.

Poche’s has been a family owned business since they opened in 1962, and they have no plans on slowing down. They’re known for their specialty Cajun meats, but when it’s in season, their chicken and sausage gumbo is quite popular.

Both their shrimp and crab gumbo and their chicken and sausage gumbo are absolutely delicious. With a name like Rice & Roux, what else would you expect?

Open since 2012, this delicious eatery serves up all things Cajun and Creole, but their customers absolutely love their chicken and sausage gumbo.

9. Chef Ron’s Gumbo Stop
Gumbo is what this place specializes in, putting their own unique spin on this classic comfort food. They have several different variations of gumbo, including the mumbo gumbo, chicken and sausage, and the yumbo mumbo gumbo, which is their delicious file gumbo with fried golden shrimp on top.

Since opening in 2007, Luke’s has been combining German and French cuisine while keeping some traditional Cajun classics on the menu. Their seafood gumbo is flavorful and chocked full of seafood and andouille sausage.
