This Epic Road Trip Leads To 7 Iconic Landmarks In Kentucky

Kentucky is full of unique roadside attractions, incomparable natural wonders, and incredible historic sites — some of which are known ’round the world, in fact! In an effort to get out and really immerse ourselves in the incomparable Bluegrass State, we’ve put together a road trip to some of the most iconic landmarks in Kentucky. Check it out, and get ready to embark on an epic adventure in the Bluegrass!

Our Iconic Kentucky Landmarks Road Trip covers 322 miles in the central part of the state. Total drive time is six hours, though we recommend making a weekend road trip out of it so you can really explore each destination!

The first stop on our Iconic Kentucky Landmarks Road Trip is, well, an iconic one. The Kentucky Horse Park is one of our state's crown jewels; it's a celebration of the equestrian history and culture for which Kentucky is world famous.

The park contains a number of statues and totems to famous horses and jockeys in the state's history, and is a bucket-list must for all Kentuckians!
Next up is a place that needs no introduction: Cumberland Falls.

Kentucky State Parks
Known as the Niagara of the South, this majestic 68-foot waterfall on the Cumberland River is the second tallest in the state, but easily the most iconic.
My Old Kentucky Home is a Bluegrass treasure; it's a state park with one of the South's most iconic buildings: Federal Hill.

A former plantation home owned by U.S. Senator John Rowan in 1795, this Kentucky landmark is an absolute must-visit in the Bluegrass.
Just a stone's throw from My Old Kentucky Home, you'll find another KY icon: the Jim Beam Distillery.

In a state that's that's world-famous for bourbon production, Jim Beam is definitely one that's on the winner's podium.
The next destination on our road trip is a place of immense beauty: Bernheim Arboretum.

A few years ago, Bernheim added three whimsical woodland giants to the grounds, taking the experience of this picturesque park to a place of pure fantasy. These woodland giants are grand and commanding, and a fun photo op on your Kentucky adventure!
The final destination on our trip is none other than the former State Capitol of Kentucky in Frankfort.

This National Historic Landmark served as Kentucky’s capitol from 1830 to 1910, and is an incredible -- and perhaps even haunted -- place to explore.
