While most native Kentuckians know that George Clooney was born and raised in Augusta, Kentucky, I was surprised to see how few knew he spent his college days in the small town of Silver Grove, Kentucky, while he was attending Northern Kentucky University. So let’s get to know that town where Gorgeous George rested his head before he made his meteoric rise to stardom!

One of the best-known gems of Silver Grove is the Dari Bar.

It would be easy to write off the spot as a “creamy whip-type of place that every small town seems to have,” but unlike the standard ice cream shop, the Dari Bar has become the heart of the town in the best way. Enjoy a dinner made with fresh vegetables grown in a local garden and finish up with one of the best chocolate malts you’ll ever have.
When Silver Grove first became a town, it was known as the one place in the area where work would be steady because of the need for labor with the railroad.

In fact, Silver Grown was more-or-less built to be an attractive place to stay to entice workers to flock from all over to work the rails. Today, the locomotion piece of this history is not lost on the town, especially when you hear that train whistle from any part of the city. Photographed above is the old C & O Railroad Bus.
There are plenty of places in Silver Grove to go for a nice countryside walk, and one of the best places to end up is this little-known farm stand. During the late summer and early fall, you can visit and pick up a sunflower bouquet and later in the fall, they have pumpkins available for purchase as well.

One of the most recent developments in Silver Grove is the fine folks at New Riff breaking ground on their new Rickhouse.

To commemorate the choice to make Silver Grove its home, New Riff decided to recreate the bourbon that was made for railroad workers in town back before prohibition.
Chief John Sawyer Park is one of the town's hidden gems. In the summer, you can see live music on many weekends and an old-timey baseball game is played once a year to celebrate the town’s history.

When you work up an appetite, make sure to stop by Pelle’s Cafe. They are known throughout all of Campbell County for their deep-fried cheeseburger. I can confirm, it is as crazy as it sounds and you will love it.
