Ride The Rails Through The Kansas Countryside On The Historic Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad

What could be more calming for a Kansan than enjoying a scenic ride through our beautiful state? One full of history, of course! The only way we could make it better is by traveling by train. There are passenger trains in Kansas that still operate like they did all those years ago. Why not ride a historic train while you still can? The view is simply amazing.

What you see here is a steam locomotive located at the Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad. In fact, it's the only one still operating in Kansas!

it's a 1919 Baldwin 4-6-2 "Pacific" type locomotive that was moved to the ASVRR in 1994 from the park where it once sat.

Locomotive 3415 was built in 1919 and served the Argentine district for years before being donated to Abilene in 1954.

It was restored in 2005, and has been delighting passengers every trip since then.

For a little extra ticket price, you can buy a ticket to ride up front where the magic happens.

For an extra special treat, you can also reserve a time for you or a loved one to experience being an engineer for a day! How amazing would that be?

Watching the beautiful northeast Kansas scenery couldn't be better than the view from a train.

The feeling of being part of history is also a huge plus. After all, how long do we have before trains are only a memory?

ASVRR has been taking passengers on dinner trains, steam locomotive trips, and even a silver railbus.

What's a railbus, you ask? Well it's a school bus that has been modified to ride the rails like a train would.
