Have you ever explored an old abandoned building before? While it isn't always safe, there are occasional times when ruins of a building are well taken care of. We might not have as many ruins as other states, but one thing's for sure, these Kansas church ruins aren't something you see everyday. Come check it out!
Please remember to make sure you are not trespassing if you visit here. You are responsible for obtaining any permissions necessary to visit this location.
What you see here, is the ruins of a once beautiful church, sitting silently in a ghost town named Emmeram.
The prospect of a ghost town is a little more spooky in theory than in reality. When you arrive, it feels just like an empty town with buildings mostly forgotten, no ghosts at all.
The building itself is the remnants of the Sacred Heart Church, finished in 1901. Its first mass was on Christmas Day, which would have been a real sight to see. The church pastor, Emmeram Kausler, is the reason the town's name changed from Norddorf to what it was before it was abandoned.
In 1998, the church suspiciously burned down in a fire, though no culprit has been found. Only the limestone remained, as the rest of the church
Imagining all the people who walked through this building isn't hard, though we don't think many people visited during its lifetime compared to other churches. There was never a formal town built here, and a post office only remained in operation from 1903 to 1904.
If you get permission to visit and you're exploring the grounds, make sure you watch your footing because loose stones and other debris are around every corner.
Make sure to be safe whenever you visit any ruins, and make sure not to leave anything behind or break anything while you're there.
You'll find Emmeram Church at the intersection of 350th road and Emmeram avenue in Emmeram/Victoria, Kansas.
If you like old landmarks and things, you should check out this old tree that's one of Kansas' favorite good luck charms.
