We're the first to say that we love a good easy hike in Kansas. The Sunflower State has plenty of short trails that are under two miles and will take you less than an hour to explore. They're perfect for when you're out with the kids, have limited mobility, or just don't have a ton of time to spend out in nature. But for those who find themselves craving something a little more difficult, the hike we're featuring today should be right up your alley. The Perry Lake Hiking Trail in Ozawkie, Kansas is one of the longest trails in Kansas. At 27 miles in length, it's certainly not an easy jaunt through the woods that you can accomplish in just a few minutes. Most of us might not be up for a 10-hour hike, but the great thing about a long distance trail like this is that you don't have to enjoy it all in one day. The less adventurous among us will take a trail like this and split it up, choosing segments to hike each day. Let's take a closer look at this beautiful trail:
You'll find the trail at beautiful Perry Lake State Park, a 113-acre oasis complete with beach and campground.
This is a beautiful trail to explore at any time of year. I love lakefront scenery!
You'll sometimes hear this area referred to as the Little Ozarks - there's a surprising amount of elevation change here, with plenty of hills and some downright rugged areas.
This is a wonderful area for a wildlife spotting. You can expect to see deer, plenty of birds, and small mammals.
All the greenery does mean that this can be a buggy trail during the warmer months. You'll definitely want to load up on insect repellent!
Much of the trail runs along the lake, making for stunning scenery.
If you enjoy the thrill of a long hike in Kansas, the Perry Lake Trail is a great challenge!
