Snake Alley is located between Washington Street and Columbia Street in Burlington, Iowa.
This twisted alley was named the Crookedest Street In The World by Ripley's Believe It Or Not!

The twisting path was built to be reminiscent of vineyard paths in France and Germany. Over 275 feet of space, the path twists through five half-curves, two quarter-curves, and rises 58.3 feet. five half-curves and two quarter-curves. The street is reminiscent of vineyard paths in France and Germany.
Today, the winding and twisting road is much the same, and it's Burlington's most notable landmark.
Along the short path, you'll find the First United Church of Christ, which was built in 1851!
The Phelps House is also at the top of Snake Alley. This Victorian mansions and medical museum was once a hospital for Burlington residents.
Cyclists from around the country gather in Burlignton every May to compete in one of the most challenging bike races around, and it draws huge crowds!
The Snake Alley Criterium will be held Saturday, May 26th, 2018. If you're not a cyclist, it's still fun to attend the race and watch the climb up Snake Alley! Plenty of vendors make this a perfect way to kick off summer.In addition to the famous bike race, the Snake Alley Art Fair is one of the town's most notable events. For the past 50 years, the Snake Alley Art Fair has brought together dozens of Burlington artists, to show off their Iowa-inspired works and sell their creations to those looking to support their craft. The Art Fair is held on Father's Day.
If you've never seen Snake Alley in person, you've got to plan a trip! In fact, the entirety of Burlington is so nice that it's worth a weekend stay.
