Des Moines is a huge city, dwarfing all others in the Hawkeye State by a wide margin. There’s much to do and see here, so finding a place to relax and cool off can be essential to a good day of touring – especially if you’re visiting in summer! That’s why I was so happy to discover that the city of Des Moines has invested in a new urban oasis. Hidden on Walnut Street, EMC Downtown Park is the newest park in Iowa, and it’s a small but engaging place featuring benches, green spaces, pickleball courts, and even some unique public art. It’s the kind of laid-back neighborhood park that everyone has been clamoring for more of, and now it’s hiding right in the heart of Des Moines. Word may not have gotten out yet, so come and see it for yourself before the crowds find it!
