Des Moines is a huge city, dwarfing all others in the Hawkeye State by a wide margin. There’s much to do and see here, so finding a place to relax and cool off can be essential to a good day of touring – especially if you’re visiting in summer! That’s why I was so happy to discover that the city of Des Moines has invested in a new urban oasis. Hidden on Walnut Street, EMC Downtown Park is the newest park in Iowa, and it’s a small but engaging place featuring benches, green spaces, pickleball courts, and even some unique public art. It’s the kind of laid-back neighborhood park that everyone has been clamoring for more of, and now it’s hiding right in the heart of Des Moines. Word may not have gotten out yet, so come and see it for yourself before the crowds find it!

Did you know EMC Downtown Park was hiding in the middle of Des Moines? If so, tell us your thoughts on the newest park in Iowa in the comments section. You can find out more about the park’s features on the City of Des Moines website. While you’re in the city, why not have a prix fixe pasta meal at Lucca? Not to mention, the park is only feet away from the famous Surety Hotel.
