We’ve all got that one amazing local restaurant that basically defines our town, and when they stick around long enough, they become part of the very fiber of the town. That makes it all the more heartbreaking when one closes its doors for good, whether due to retirement, financial issues, or changing times. But once in a while, one of these icons rises from the grave – and in one amazing Iowa comeback story, that’s exactly what happened to a Denison cafe. Cronk’s Cafe is an Iowa icon, open since 1929 serving reasonably-priced breakfast, lunch, and dinner to weary travelers. But it closed its doors for good in May 2020 – or so it seemed. This local favorite reopened in November 2023 under new management – and they’ve made some big changes to the menu and the atmosphere.
