This Giant Jungle Gym Hiding In Iowa Will Bring Out The Adventurer In You

When you’re looking for a new spot to explore in Iowa, don’t discount Des Moines’ parks! While you may think you know all the cool places in Iowa’s biggest city, chances are this hidden playground is new to you, and you’ll love it after just one visit.

The beautiful Ashley Okland Star Playground was built in memory of a Des Moines woman who dedicated her life to volunteering with Iowa's children's charity, Variety.

Variety raised money in her memory to create this inclusive playground that provides fun for children of all ages and abilities.

When you get closer, you'll find that this giant jungle gym is a paradise!

There are slides, bridges, swings, puzzles and plenty of places to practice climbing.

Most of the obstacles and play areas are wheelchair accessible, built with ramps and switchbacks.

There's even a "honeycomb" feature that's designed to help children take a sensory break and enjoy some quieter alone time.

The creative and fun playspace here are so much fun! There are plenty of unique playground adventures to be had here.

The climbing obstacles are always a favorite, and with a variety of difficulties, most kids can find a way to climb up high.

For those who choose to stay on the ground, there are plenty of swings and toys throughout the playground, so nobody has to miss out on any fun.

You can find the Ashley Okland Star playground in Ewing Park, at 5300 Indianola Ave., Des Moines, IA 50320. Nearby, you can also find picnic shelters and a nature trail, so this is an ideal spot to explore on a sunny summer afternoon.
