The Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center is a temple in southern Indiana that is little-known even to Hoosiers. It has been around for more than 40 years and was founded by a brother of the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet.
This Buddhist temple preserves Tibetan and Mongolian cultures while giving locals and travelers a place to meditate and practice their spirituality. Recitations, yoga sessions, and even tours are offered each week.
Nestled within this already hidden place is an even more secret yurt village. There are three accommodations to choose from and guests get to live like Buddhist monks.
These simple, round, hut-like cottages are tucked into the trees and are absolutely wonderful anytime of year. Nature lovers will especially want to put this spot on their bucket lists.
Rooms come with mini kitchens, one or more beds, and views of the outdoors. You'll feel right at home in this yurt village.
Room rates are not listed online. You'll have to call the temple to get more information and make reservations.
If you just want to check out the temple, you can stop by daily between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Otherwise, you'll want to learn more about events on its website.
