Indiana is full of charming and incredible small towns that every Hoosier should visit. From the lovely Metamora to the stunning Beverly Shores to eclectic Nashville, we’re chock full of small town charm. However, the quirkiest town in Indiana is by far this historic gem.
New Harmony, Indiana is a fascinating tiny town in Posey County, along the Wabash River. This incredible town has a remarkable history and is easily the quirkiest place in all of Indiana.
New Harmony was originally founded as Harmonie in 1814, but when the settlers left to return home to Pennsylvania, Robert Owen purchased the town and created a unique, utopian establishment there. Though the experiment ultimately failed, the remnants of this former utopian village are amazing.

You'll find two types of labyrinths in New Harmony, including this exquisite Harmonist Labyrinth. This labyrinth is meant to represent the unique struggles of life, in the pursuit of harmony.
The second labyrinth is a rose granite unicursal one that bears strong resemblance to the French Medieval Chartres Cathedral Labyrinth.
Like all small towns, New Harmony has churches, but this particular church may be the quirkiest one you've ever seen. It's non-denominational and roofless, so as to be large enough to fit everyone.

New Harmony is also well known for its interesting and distinct architecture and colorful style.. You'll find many incredible houses and shops to gawk at throughout the historic downtown area.

The incredible New Harmony atheneum was designed by the prestigious architect, Richard Meier, and is now a visitor center and hub of historical information about this small town.
Even outdoor spaces in New Harmony are remarkable. This image of Carol's Garden showcases ethereal trees and greenery that appear to have sprung to life straight out of a fairy tale.
New Harmony was also once the site of this incredible living sculpture of tree huts. While this sculpture is no longer standing, it's just a further testament of the unique features of New Harmony.
You'll also find quaint shops and restaurants, just as in other small towns, but all have a very distinct look and feel about them.
...even the bird houses are unique!
Pieces of artwork and remnants of the town's past are all scattered throughout this unique area, setting it apart from other small towns in Indiana.
