The Indianapolis Zoo began construction on its original location in 1962; it opened to the public in 1964.

The zoo was a huge hit, and soon enough, it outgrew its first home. In 1988, The Indianapolis Zoo re-opened in its new and current home, where millions of people have come to witness different creatures from all over the planet.
In 2005, the world-famous dolphin exhibit opened, and in 2007, the Oceans Exhibit was born.

The exhibit is one-of-a-kind and state-of-the-art, with literal hundreds upon hundreds of ocean critters present to observe.
The Oceans Exhibit is proud to have the largest shark pool in the United States, where guests can spend time petting docile dogfish sharks.
