Tucked away in Fremont, Indiana, is a magical place that few Hoosiers even know about. It's a place of wonder and learning and, of course, giant furry friends. It's the amazing Wild Winds Buffalo Preserve, and it's easily one of the best things to do in Indiana for nature and animal lovers alike. This is one of the only places where one can witness wild buffalo in Indiana, and it's home to about 250 of them (with more arriving every year). Check out this incredible nature preserve in Indiana for an adventure you'll never forget.
With 250+ beautiful bison to admire at the preserve, you're in for a very special treat.
The park isn't tiny; it extends about 400 acres, all of which belong to our friends: the buffalo.
The preserve is open year-round and offers hands-on tours into the herd to admire their beauty and learn all about them.
You'll be enchanted watching these stunning beasts in all their natural glory, going about their daily lives without a care in the world about the folks watching them.
Tours run on the hour every day, during every season, and trust us when we say they're absolutely worth the adventure!
Come in mid-May and experience the calving season, when anywhere from 40 to 50 new babies are born.
They. Are. Adorable.
During the summer, witness the herd raising the young and grazing openly across the preserve.
In the fall, rutting season begins, and you can have a front-row seat to witness the spectacle.
At this time, the younger bulls challenge the older ones for dominance and mating rights, ensuring that only the strongest in the herd will be able to produce progeny and keep it going for generations to come.
Wild Winds Buffalo Preserve is an incredibly magical, majestic place, and personally we just can't get enough.
Even in the winter, the buffalo are as beautiful as ever; come tour the herd and learn all about what it's like to be a part of a buffalo herd year-round!
