The Incredible Buffet In Indiana With Almost As Many Desserts As Main Dishes
There’s just something fun about buffets, right? There’s something ridiculously American about a smorgasbord of comfort food and all the fixins, and it’s a tradition in lots of families that goes way back. We found an amazing buffet in Indiana that’s become a local legend, and it, too, goes way back. Even better still, the dessert selection is out of this world – almost as extensive as the entrees! If you’ve got an appetite (and loose-fitting pants), you’re going to want to head to Back 40 Junction, in Decatur. It’s a sweet tooth owner’s dream, with what might be the best dessert buffet in Indiana, and it’s got all the deliciousness you could ever ask for all under one roof. Check it out!
Back 40 Junction's story goes all the way back to the 1950s when Clete Miller purchased a building known as Swearinger Dairy Ice Cream and Malt Shop.
In 1974, Miller decided to expand. He built Back 40 Junction with a railroad theme and plenty more tables. Over the years, Back 40 Junction has evolved its eclectic style and legendary menu, and we can't get enough of it.
We're not even sure where to start when it comes to the lunch and dinner buffet.
The prime rib is juicy and perfect. The ribs are to die for. Do you like pot roast? Good, because the pot roast here is amazing. Sometimes there's brisket. There's always fried chicken.
It's the ultimate exercise in comfort food and all the delights that come with it, but it's also well-known for another thing: its legendary dessert bar.
Sure, there are still more entrees and sides than there are dessert items, but the dessert bar at Back 40 Junction is nothing to shake a stick (or a spoon) at.
There's a large selection of pies, pralines, baked goodies, chocolates, and so much more to indulge in.
...you're gonna want to try everything there is to try.
For the most up-to-date hours, menu, specials, and more, be sure to check out the official Back 40 Junction website. If you realize you’re still hungry even after all this, you might want to check out the nine most unique restaurants in Indiana while you’re at it.

Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
