Located near Rockford, Illinois, this 2.3-mile trail is rated as easy with stretches of gravel, dirt, grass, and even a beautiful bridge that is a perfect photo opportunity. This trail is open year-round and is beautiful in all seasons.
Perfect for large groups and solo explorers alike, this popular trail is great for birding, cross-country skiing, and hiking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of the day. Dogs are not allowed on this trail.

To enjoy this lovely trail, begin your journey at the Severson Dells Forest Preserve parking lot and walk east.

When you find trail marker #3 turn left, then turn left again at marker #4. Spend some time in the pristine prairie and then turn left again at the northeastern corner of the prairie loop to continue on the Funderberg Forest preserve.
For those looking for more adventure, feel free to explore along the trail and also on the old logging roads that criss-cross the trail in several places.
