We all deserve some time away. Lucky for us, the Prairie State has some idyllic places we can head to for a staycation. Whether you choose to go camping or glamping or stay at a bed and breakfast or waterfront hotel, the options are seemingly endless. But sometimes we may want to stay somewhere with a bit more luxury, perhaps for a romantic weekend, anniversary, or some other special occasion. Just minutes from downtown Galena lies the Goldmoor Inn which provides exquisite accommodations and amenities for the ultimate getaway.
The history of the Goldmoor Inn started in the 1800s when it was a private estate. Over time it was purchased by the original inn owners who renovated and enlarged the property, adding two log cabins and three English cottages.
The estate overlooks the Mississippi River from atop a bluff in Galena and, for over three decades, the inn has provided the ultimate in luxury for guests on its 21 acres.
The surroundings are scenic with river views, gardens, and forest bordering much of the property. You will feel as though you are worlds away despite being a mere six miles from downtown Galena.
In all, there are 18 luxury suites available on the property: two cabins, three cottages, and 13 deluxe suites in the main inn, which is also referred to as the Castle. Every room is tastefully decorated with a European flair.
The cabins may look rustic on the outside but they are anything but inside. They are cozy yet spacious, each with a fireplace, galley kitchen, and dining area where you can enjoy your breakfast each morning.
Each private cottage has a galley kitchen as well, exclusive access to outdoor areas, and a private porch for you to sit and enjoy the surroundings, perhaps while drinking a glass of wine.
Every suite on the property has its own whirlpool jacuzzi for you to relax and unwind. And there is a spa if you would like to take relaxation a step further with a massage.
Dining at the Goldmoor is an experience everyone should have at least once, and you don't even have to be an overnight guest in order to make a reservation. Enjoy picturesque scenery from the restaurant as you dine on cuisine from the seasonal menu.
