But, if you are just looking for something relaxing and beautiful at any time of the year, this road trip is for you. This road trip begins in Boise and takes you into the panhandle. If you complete this road trip in its entirety, you will travel approximately 450 miles. We suggest breaking this road trip into multiple days so you have plenty of time to stop, explore, and admire Idaho’s beauty. Idaho Botanical Garden, Boise
The Idaho Botanical Garden is beautiful under a blanket of snow or when the flowers are in full bloom. Walk around and admire this gorgeous garden and, if time allows, even participate in one of the many events or classes held throughout the year. This is a great way to stay in the city and still escape into nature.
Boise River Greenbelt, Boise
The Boise River Greenbelt is a 25-mile paved trail along the Boise River. It is considered one of the best river walks in the country as it takes you through gorgeous landscapes, to numerous parks, and over more than a dozen bridges. Our favorite time to walk the greenbelt is in Autumn when the fall foliage reaches its peak.
Confluence Overlook, Near Lewiston
The Confluence Overlook is located on Highway 95, just north of Lewiston and on your way to Moscow. This overlook is breathtaking year round but particularly on a clear day when you can see Hells Canyon, the Bitterroot and Wallowa Mountains, and the Snake and Clearwater Rivers.
The Palouse
Did you know that some of the most beautiful hills in America are found in northern Idaho? The Palouse is one region of Idaho that is absolutely stunning. Located near Moscow, this area features small hills that were formed thousands of years ago and made from dust and silt. While beautiful all year, the harvest is particularly stunning when all you can see are rolling hills of gold.
Lake Coeur d’Alene
Lake Coeur d’Alene is one of the most well-known lakes in Idaho and deserves a visit on every bucket list. This beautiful destination is also where you can take a lake cruise, stay in one of the best hotels in Idaho, explore the nearby scenic byway, and more.
Farragut State Park, Athol
Farragut State Park is one of the best state parks in Idaho. Located along the southern shore of Lake Pend Oreille, this incredible state park is pure beauty. During the summer you can hike, camp, boat, and fish. During the winter, this is an incredible destination for winter hiking, snowshoeing, and Nordic skiing.
Schweitzer Mountain, Sandpoint
The last stop on our road trip is at Schweitzer Mountain near Sandpoint. While this area is popular in the winter, we highly recommend visiting during the summer. This area turns into the ultimate playground with frisbee golf, ziplining, and mountain biking. During huckleberry season, you can even take a tour up the mountain to find some of the best huckleberry-picking spots in northern Idaho.
