Summer in Idaho is easily one of our favorite times of the year. With countless outdoor activities, attractions, parks to visit, and so much more, there is always something exciting to do. But, there is nothing quite like a summer weekend spent in Rexburg. This southeastern Idaho town is home to a fabulous water park, botanical garden, tasty ice cream, and so much more. It’s the perfect place to enjoy this warm and beautiful time of year.
Rexburg is located in Madison County in southeastern Idaho. It is a beautiful place to be and is close to must-visit destinations like Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, and several state parks.
While Rexburg is lovely to visit all year long, summer is when this small town truly comes to life. For starters, it is home to Rexburg Rapids, one of the only water parks in southeastern Idaho.
This family-friendly water park features multiple slides, a lazy river, aquatic rock wall, and so much more. This is the perfect place to cool off on a hot summer day.
You can also head up to the Brigham Young University campus and explore the stunning Thomas E. Ricks Garden.
This botanical garden is a plant wonderland with hundreds of flowers, plants, trees, and more to enjoy. Plus, there are all types of unique features that add even more charm to the garden including waterfalls, gazebos, and picnic areas. Enjoy a picnic lunch, meditate, or just go for an afternoon stroll — no matter what you choose, this area is heavenly.
But the Thomas E. Ricks Garden isn’t the only park worth visiting during the summer months. Porter Park is one of the most popular city parks in this Idaho town and for good reason — it is amazing!
Porter Park is home to a playground, splash pad, and the Idaho Centennial Carousel, one of the few remaining antique wooden carousels that still exist in the United States. This carousel is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day and there is a small fee to ride.
Every Friday evening from the middle of May until the first part of October, you can attend the Rexburg Farmer’s Market at the Madison County Fairgrounds.
This weekly farmer’s market is the perfect place to not only purchase fresh produce but to grab some treats, drinks, home décor, and various other items. You’ll want to visit week after week to not only stop by your favorite vendor but to see who is new as well.
Of course, the perfect summer weekend also involves ice cream and Rexburg is home to one of the most unique ice cream shops in Idaho — Crispy Cones.
At this ice cream shop, the cones are the highlight of the frozen treats as you’ll enjoy a fresh dough cone that is grilled rotisserie-style. Then, the cone is covered in toppings and stuffed with your choice of a spread, soft-serve ice cream, and sauce. It’s the perfect treat to cool you off on a hot summer day.
Rexburg, Idaho is one Idaho town that has so much to offer any time of the year, but particularly in the summer. With so much to do and see, this is the perfect weekend destination when the weather is warm.
