A new summer adventure is being offered along the Snake River in Idaho Falls and it's something to be aware of as the temperatures warm up. This riverboat excursion is not only a refreshing way to cool off on a hot summer day but also a scenic adventure that will thrill you from beginning to end. Whether you're an Idaho Falls resident or just visiting, consider a ride on this new river ferry this summer!
It's been 155 years since a ferry operated on the Snake River in Idaho Falls, but that's all about to change. Although the Snake River Ferry is technically a riverboat (not a ferry), this exciting new attraction is something to look out for this summer!
Snake River Ferry has already started offering rides for the summer season. Not only is the excursion a nod to the Eagle Rock Ferry that operated on the river from 1883 to 1885, but a thrilling adventure in its own right.
The owners of this new Idaho Falls business, Richmond and Candace Sekyere, got the idea for the Snake River Ferry while riding the Staten Island Ferry in New York. After the ride, they were inspired to provide an opportunity for Idahoans to get out on the river that runs right through Idaho Falls.
The experience is comprised of two different routes which will be offered on a rotating schedule. One route will focus on the river's northern area, beginning right at the dock at John Hole's Bridge.
Alternatively, the other route will explore the southern area of the river, beginning near iconic riverside Rock Gardens. No matter which route you take, you'll be blown away by the Snake River's tranquil beauty. In fact, you may be tempted to try both!
This new boat ride gives visitors a unique opportunity to experience the river's beauty like never before. Additionally, your captain will gladly offer up information about the city's history and the landmarks you'll spot along the way.
Each ride lasts for just under half an hour and costs $10 for adults, $5 for children (kids under 3 are free.) The ferry ride schedule changes on a weekly basis, but you can check out information for this week's schedule on their Facebook page.
