Lake Cascade is one of the more popular state parks in Idaho and for good reason — there is so much to do here. This destination is home to incredible beauty, outdoor opportunities galore, and remarkable wildlife. While many individuals flock to this state park during the summer months, a winter visit should never overlooked. This is one of our favorite state parks to visit during the winter months. A visit to Lake Cascade should be on every bucket list. Located near the towns of Cascade and Donnelly, Lake Cascade is a man-made reservoir that has been attracting individuals since 1948. It is the fourth largest lake in Idaho.
During the summer, there is plenty to keep you busy at Lake Cascade State Park including swimming, boating, hiking, and camping. But when the winter weather arrives, it doesn’t mean there is less to do here.
Lake Cascade State Park is a prime destination for Nordic skiing. With multiple groomed trails around the park, there are plenty of opportunities no matter how far you want to travel.
You can also strap on your snowshoes and explore many of the trails as well. And, even better, the park is known to host events that provide instruction on both cross-country skis and snowshoes. You’ll want to visit the Lake Cascade State Park Facebook page for updates.

When the lake freezes over, it isn’t uncommon to see anglers trying their luck at ice fishing. You may just be lucky enough to catch tiger musky, bass, and trout. Keep in mind that an Idaho fishing license is required for ice fishing.
Plus, you can bundle up and experience winter camping at Lake Cascade State Park. While winter camping is limited when compared to the warmer months of the year, this is one of the few destinations in the state where you can sleep under the stars during this chilly time of the year.
Lake Cascade State Park may be the ultimate winter weather destination in Idaho. It’s the perfect place to get outside, into the fresh air, and surrounded by winter beauty.
