I have called Idaho home for the past decade. I have lived all around the state from the panhandle to southeastern Idaho, which is where I currently reside. And while I have seen incredible attractions and eaten mouthwatering dishes (huckleberry shakes anyone?), I have a confession to make … I have never tried finger steaks, one of the most iconic Idaho dishes.
Yes, Idaho may be known for its potatoes but there is another food item that makes people think of the Gem State — finger steaks. These are essentially like fried chicken dishes but with beef. The steak is cut into finger-length strips, breaded, and then fried.
In Boise, one of the most popular places for finger steaks is Westside Drive In. Just make sure you don’t forget the potato ice cream as well – it’s a true feast for a true Idahoan!
Lindy’s Steakhouse in Boise is another must-visit destination as here, the finger steaks are made from hand-cut sirloin and then doubled coated in batter and pressure fried.
Of course, we always recommend visiting the Depot Grill when a craving for delicious breakfast dishes strikes. This restaurant features a breakfast menu with up to 85 options — there’s truly something for everyone here.
In McCall, try the 10-ounce finger steaks at Lardos Grill and Salon. The finger steaks here are batter dipped, deep fried, and absolute perfection with the restaurant’s spicy steak sauce.
Yes, there are restaurants all around Idaho that serve delicious finger steaks and no, I have never had a bite. A taste of some of the best finger steaks is on my dining bucket list, however.
Have you tried finger steaks? Which restaurants in Idaho do you believe serve the best finger steaks? Let us know in the comments. We’d also love to know if there’s an iconic food or even a popular tourist attraction in Idaho that you’ve never experienced.
After you have a stomach full of delicious finger steaks, it’s time for an adventure. Check out Viator for some ideas.
